Autumn is on its way which means the ski season is nearly upon us (hooray!).
So this week, we thought we’d share our tips on how to have the best ski vacation ever!
Skiing and snowboarding is great fun, but if you haven’t got your ski legs ready it can be hard work. Doing some cardio and strength work before your ski trip can help to make your days on the hill much more enjoyable. There are heaps of ski workouts on YouTube to help get you ready– trust us, your legs will thank you!
If you’re a new skier or an improver looking for lessons, make sure you book in advance. Booking early means you’ll have the pick of the lesson times, and you won’t have to spend your first day running around resort trying to find a school that can accommodate your group.
Most ski resorts have an action-packed weekly events programme with something for all the family. Before you get to the ski resort check out the programme for the week ahead so you don’t miss the best events! Take a look at Big White Ski Resort’s event page to see what’s on during your stay.
A good pair of ski or snowboard boots can make the difference between an amazing ski vacation and a week of torture! You’ll be wearing your boots all day long, so you need to make sure you get the right ones. Don’t buy online, go to your local ski shop to try some out and get them professionally fitted. If you’re renting then remember most in-resort ski shops will swap equipment for free during your stay, so if the ones you’re given aren’t working out for you don't be shy, swap them!
The mountains can be unforgiving when it comes to UV, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can burn, even on a cloudy day. Don’t get stuck with those unfashionable google marks, wear a high factor sunscreen and reapply frequently during the day!
When you’re out on the mountain having fun, you can forget that you’re doing exercise and that means that your body needs water! Make sure you regularly drink water to stay hydrated whilst you’re up on the hill. It’ll help you keep in tip-top shape, and of course will mean you’ll be ready to enjoy those well-earned beers at the end of the day!
Stay safe on the mountain by paying attention to signs and always taking a ski map with you. When everyone’s having fun it’s so easy to lose your group, so make sure you make clear meeting plans before you set off. There are also great apps like Find My Friends where you can track your friends (or kids) location in real time.
There is nothing better than ending a long day on the mountain than by soaking those aching legs in a hot tub and sipping on a cold beer. Ski Crescendo’s unique inside/outside hot tub, is the perfect place for you to relax after an epic day!
One of the best thing about ski resort’s is they are packed with weird and wonderful activities that you might not have tried before.
