Opening Day & Resort Updates for the 2022/2023 Ski Season

Opening day at Big White Ski Resort for the 2022/2023 ski season is Thursday, November 24, 2022.  If you’re planning on heading up to Big White this year (of course you are), there are a few things to know.  This year Big White has launched some new features to get you closer to nature and improve your experience.

Here’s what’s new for their 2022/2023 season:

New for the 2022/2023 Winter Season

The resort has been working hard this summer to prepare for the upcoming season, and they’re excited to show off all the new additions they’ve made. The list of improvements is long and impressive, so we’ll just leave you with a few highlights:

1. New Gondola Cabins

You’ve been asking Big White for years to update their gondolas, and we’re so excited to announce that they finally delivered on that request. Lara’s Gondola has been upgraded with 16 new cabins for an enjoyable ride from Happy Valley to the Village Centre. These new cabins will provide an upgraded experience, and we can’t wait for you to check them out.  Heck, we can’t wait to check them out for ourselves!

2. Two New Grooming Machines

Big White is adding two new grooming machines to their impressive fleet this year. That means that 12 machines are working hard to prepare your runs for Opening Day, Thursday, November 24th. And did we mention they’re pretty new? Big White had them delivered just last month, and they’re already expected to make a huge impact on the mountain, and, ultimately, on your experience.

3. New Central Reservations Building

If you’re a regular visitor to Big White, you know that checking in can be a bit of a drag. But we’ve got some exciting news. Big White’s new Central Reservations Building, which will be located in Happy Valley, will be open this winter, and it will make checking in a lot easier.  Transfers from airport to your room are expected to be more easily facilitated.

4. Black Forest Improvements

This season, you’ll find improvements to the Black Forest. The new skier bridge at the Black Forest will make getting to your favorite runs easier than ever before. Big White will also be paving the road from Big White Village to the Black Forest Day Lodge so that you can get back up to your condo after a long day on the slopes without having to worry about any icy roads or snow tires.

5. Environmentally Friendly Fuel Delivery System

Big White Ski Resort has installed a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly anti-spill fuel delivery systems made especially for alpine environments.  This will result in reduced emissions and fewer spills, which will help the resort keep its mountain pristine for years to come. Big White is committed to protecting our environment, and this new system will help them do just that.

6. New Haul Rope for Telus Park Chair

To improve the safety and experience of skiers and snowboarders at Telus Park, the Big White Ski Resort has installed a new haul rope for the chairlift.  The new haul rope will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will allow for faster loading and unloading of the lift, making it easier to get to the top of the mountain and enjoy the powdery snow.

8. Night Skiing Is Back

After a two-season break, night skiing is back at the Big White Ski Resort.  For all you night owls out there, this is great news. Night skiing is one of the best ways to enjoy the winter season. With the mountain lit up by hundreds of lights and snow falling on you, it’s almost like being in a movie. You can stay out late, meet new people, and have fun with all your friends while enjoying one of life’s greatest pleasures: skiing.
