Big White: Home of Gigantic Slopes, Massive Peaks, & Epic Challenges. Both Summer & Winter!

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but Big White is a bit of an event hub. With the ski season coming to a close and the summer season just getting started, it means that, between now and September, there are tons of events in the works. Here’s an update on some of the biggies so you can plan your calendar accordingly.

Big White Peak Challenge

If looking for an event that combines exercise, great scenery, and fun, then look no further than the Big White Peak Challenge.

Yes, this is a race, but the event is suitable for all fitness levels and is a great way to challenge yourself with those who are like-minded. This course covers the beautiful scenery of either one or three peaks and is a run that can be completed by just about anyone at any level of fitness.

Once you reach the top of the first peak, you’ll have an incredible mountain view before making your way over to Lake Rhonda. The race concludes down at Happy Valley, where competitors (and non-competitors) can enjoy post-race festivities, including being treated to refreshments, beer, snacks, food, and more. The atmosphere, of course, will be amazing, provided by the crowd cheering each other on.

Again, this event is perfect for both the seasoned runner, for those just starting out, and for every level in between.

Additional Information about the Big White Peak Challenge:

  • The Big White Peak Challenge is an exciting race that takes place at Big White Ski Resort. This year, the event will be held on 13 August 2022, at 08:00 AM.
  • The event also includes a chance to win great prizes and a cash prize purse for the first female and first male winners in the 3 Peak Challenge. The entry fee is $55 for one peak or $75 for all three peaks.
  • Both Peak Challenges are open to the public and require contestants to sign up in advance.

Spartan Race (or Hike)

Big White Ski Resort is also thrilled to host the Spartan Race on August 27, 2022. This exciting event features three different distances to choose from:

  • the Super (a 10K race)
  • the Beast (a 21K race)
  • the Ultra (a 50K race)

But that’s not all (of course that’s not all – this is Big White!). The course will be taking place on Big White’s highest summit in the Okanagan. The location is not only fantastic for beginners, but for the most experienced hikers/racers as well.

If you’re ready to push yourself beyond what you thought possible – and have some fun to boot – we’ll see you there.

After Race Events

Both of the above events will be taking place on Saturday, so you can enjoy your day and then head over to Big White’s Village where there will be live music and food vendors late into the night.

After both events end, stick around for an epic fireworks show. The fireworks will start at 8.00 pm.

General Trail Information

There are a variety of hiking trails available in the area, so you’ll never run out of options. If you’re looking for an easy way to get started, check out the Alpine Meadows trail or the Bowman Lake Loop Trail.

If you’re feeling like an overnight adventure and want to spend some time in nature, there are several options for that as well. One of our favorites is Mirror Lake. It’s an easy hike that will take you right up to a gorgeous lake and leave you with plenty of daylight left for fishing or camping.

We hope to see you soon.
